I’m a newbie to CAD. Does any one know how to dimension a long object to shown only the two ends on the layout without overwrite the dim text? With AutoCAD 2007 Thank's

One way is to use two pspace viewports - one showing each end - and dimension in paperspace.

HI! jaberwok
First of all. Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried what you suggest but I only get a few inches shown on the dim, is there anything that I miss? I use two viewport on pspace, scale and lineup the object, dim on pspace. After I dim I try to move the viewport away the dim doesn't follow looks like the dim is not associate with the object, I check the system variable. DIMASSOC is set to 2. I try dim update and dim regen but still no luck.any suggestion? Thanks again.

Sorry, I should have said that, if your other dimensions are in modelspace, you should create a new dimstyle. Create a new style based on the one you want to use and modify it for use in paperspace. I don't remember the variable name but it's on the FIT tab. You check the box "Scale dimensions to layout". I think.
Ah. It's DIMSCALE and you set it to zero.

HI! Jaberwok
Thanks for reply. For some reason it doesn’t work for me, I try dimscale set to 0 and all dim draw on pspace, still don’t work. When I dim in one viewport they all look fine, but when I dim in two viewport I mean start in one viewport and end in other viewport. The dim text shows only a few inches instead of the full length. Do you know why? Thanks again.

Sorry, I can't make it work now either.
It certainly used to work.
I'll have another try later.

Something has changed and that idea no longer works. :-(
I did come up with this (inelegant) workaround.
Draw in mspace. Dimension in mspace.
In pspace, create three vports - one for each end of the dimension and one for the dim text.
White and blue are viewports.
