I would like to be able to set a list of paths/folders for various template locations.
This would enable user/organisation template(s) to be presented in the same list as the standard acad templates, without having to save or copy template files around into just one folder.
The support file search path is a list of folders in a set order so why can't the template location also be that way. By default it could just have the one folder set so most users wouldn't even notice a change!

From an administration perspective this sounds like a very
bad idea. As even now with templates in a single location
it isn't always garanteed that a user will start a new drawing
using the proper template. I'm just imaging all the confusion
this could add to that scenario.

Cad Manager "Did you start this with the ABC drawing template"?

CAD user " Yes, I used ABC in XYZ folder"

Cad Manager "No, not that ABC template, this one in the PDQ folder"

I think I'll stay happy with only one place for the choice to be made
and be much happier for it being so limiting.

In addition to what Michael said, if you decide that multiple folders better suits your needs, you can simply put subfolders in the Template folder. This is the current method used by adt 2005 for organizing metric, imperial templates, etc. You can also put a shortcut in the folder, but that has been know to slow down the plot dialog.
