I'm just in the process of creating a network deployment (so I can test the software for video performance on nVidia and ATI powered machines with new drivers) and I noticed that the deployment asks me to specify if I'm installing a 32bit or 64bit deployment. This is good news. It means that 64bit support is at least partially here -- that Revit will be allowed to take a full 4Gb on people with 64bit OS's installed on their workstations.

I believe all it does right now is change the path information, i.e. C:\Program Files vs. C:\Program Files (x86) and the 64 bit .net

I saw this as well and I am very eager to fire up my 64 bit XP machine again. I did testing with a 64 bit xp host os with 32 bit guest os just to run revit but saw little improvement. Only the rendering improved but by single digit seconds not minutes.
Yes I know the difference between 32 and 64 bit, it doesn't make the processor run any faster. But I was trying to figure out if there was any bottlenecks between the os (both hosted and guest) and the revit executable.
Now I am just waiting for subscription to ship my products so I can get a valid group id for my testing as well as my normal 32 bit installs.

i was told by an autodesk 'insider' that it was going to be released in the august 2008 service pack.
still waiting, but not holding my breath anymore.

I have had some problems with the network deployment. It worked ok with the default settings, but when I changed the content path to local folders for our laptop users, certain key DLL files dont get installed, and we have to copy them into the Revit Program folder from another machine.
Anyone else have this problem?

I actually had that issue with 2008. I re-created the deployment and it worked... that might not be your solution, but its worth a try.

.
I've heard something similar. DISCLAIMER: There were no guarantees given, but its something that has been discussed.

I created a deployment and loaded it on a Vista64 box and the Task Manager still lists it as a 32bit app - which is what we were all expecting. As was mentioned above, this switch must have to do with folers and the deployment package.

Thanks for the follow up everyone. I will stand down my power up of the 64 bit system.

All this makes me wonder: why does it seem like society as it relates to PC's is taking so long to go to 64 bit? 64-bit Windoze OS's have been around for several years now, it makes me wonder why 64-bit hasn't become the standard yet...

Well I'm hoping the next Windows version is only 64bit . Their next server version will be only 64, but regular windows ... maybe not :(
OS X already made the move to 64

Nobody is going anywhere, anytime soon w/regards to 32 to 64. Including MS.
That is asking the whole of the software world to re-write/port over their product lines, and that cost $Ka-Ching$
Never the less, I use 64 exclusively, and find that 99% of the app's I choose work or I find alternatives that have been ported.

Well nobody likes change, but some people try to force it on others. MS tried to do it with Vista (or actually did it, to some extent) ... so I thought forcing people to go Windows 64 might be right up their alley :)

If Autodesk will port to Mac's, Revit will be 64 bit. I have so many problems with Windows and no problem with my Mac OSX.
