occasionally we are having stairs below show through floors in plan. doesn't happen all the time. just when there is something funky about the stair: like it goes down through a hole in the floor, takes a turn, and is supposed to be hidden by the floor. we're sure the slabs are drawn correctly. still on 2008. fixes?

Are you saying that if you replace the same stair by another that has a straight run (or something not funky), you won't have the same problem?

yes, exactly, on the one problem. there is another similar problem in another drawing, but i will keep it simple and just talk about this one.

by the way, how do i attach drawings to these thread messages?

If I'm not mistaken, this is a known issue... I think I recall the workaround being a filled region to hide the part of the stairs you don't want to see. Does anyone know if it's been fixed in 2009?

Yeah, attaching an image (or the Revit file if it is not big) will be great. To attach it, when you reply a post look under the "Additional Options" window just bellow the area where you write. There's a button called Manage Attachments. Click there, browse to where you file is and click Upload.

Once it is done, you just close the window and submit your reply.

This was a know issue in Revit 5.1 and the filled region was the workaround. However, it was fixed for Revit 6.0.

I remember that even in Revit 6.0, if the stairs were brought from a Revit 5.1 the problem would still happen in Revit 6.0. If the stairs were created on Revit 6.0, they would work fine...

And I don't think on this thread we are talking about stairs brought from Revit 5.1 (almost 4 years ago...)

ok i have 2 images to show you. the first floor plan has the stair circled. the long right hand run is supposed to show. the short left hand run is not. the section shows where we have a floor there that should be blocking that short run.

I did a quick search for 'stairs show floors' and came up with a lot of threads such as this one: http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=2816&highlight=stairs+show+floor
Looks like it has something to do with color fills...when they're off or set to none the stairs behave as expected, when they're on the stairs show through the floor. The same thing happened to me a while back in RAC2008. Luckily the client changed his mind on the stair layout so I didn't have to buckle and do another silly workaround!

Hope this helps!

wow, after reading all of this i think we will use a masking region and call it a day. thanks folks!

I have run into this problem on 2008 many times. I have used masking to hide the lines, but now I am using the linework tool and make the lines invisible. Keep in mind there may be several lines over each other so just keep clicking. Also, when you pick the line, there are blue dots on each end that you can adjust the length with.

I have run into this problem as well in revit 2008 and I have found a fix (after a lot of aggravation), as long as you do not need to show color schemes. As you can probably tell, the problem lies with color schemes. So go to the element properties of your view (type VP) ---> click on the value box for the color scheme parameter -----> it will bring up a edit color scheme dialog, click on (none) on the left, and hit apply, ok, and OK. Then your stairs should not show through the floor anymore.

In another words, if you add a color scheme to a view, the floor becomes "transparent" even if is there and your view set to hidden lines or shaded.
