We have a Dell Precision laptop machine here in the office that's exhibiting some strange behavior. It's a widescreen model running 1440x900 native resolution.
Sometimes, though, we need to hook up our projector to the laptop, a Dell 3300MP with 1024x768 native resolution. For some reason, the only resolution I can get to work is 800x600, which looks horrible on both the projector and the laptop display, and when I try to change resolution, it says I have to restart the machine! Never in my life have I had to reboot a computer just to change the darn resolution! :banghead:
So anyway, when I try to change it to 1024x768, I reboot like it says, and then when it comes back up and I log in, the machine is right back where it was at either 800x600 (if I hit the Function button to switch between laptop display or external display) or at 1440x900 if it's on the laptop display only.
Anyone ever seen behavior like this? I may just re-format the whole machine because it's got a ton of junk on it from a previous user no longer employed here  But first I'll probably try updating the graphics card driver.
