I've downloaded RAC 2008 since it came out and due to an unexpected crash; I haven’t been able to continue the 30 day trial. I've tried deleting the license file (stored in the applications folder) without any luck. Any one knows how to obtain the trial license?

I'm not sure you can have the same 30 days trial version working twice on the same computer. I think when it expires or if you lost it, the only option available is demo/viewer mode...

did you mean the 2009?

Short answer, once the license file is corrupt (or delete, or a date change on the windows date....not that I ever tried that) the license is un-usable until a future release, or installing it on a different hard drive...

30 day trila is just that. 30 days after install it will go away. You can't do a 2nd trial on the same PC.

Yes Jeff, but Andrew said that he was/is within the 30 days.....because of something he lost the 30 days...

Well, I think i'll have to reinstall Windows and pull an all nighter to get the drawings and renderings out for a client meeting tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, you can't downgrade a project either, which is extremely hard to explain to anyone.

Revit 2009 hasn't been out for a month yet

I've downloaded it last week and I have gotten the message that the license is unavailable. I tried installing Revit Structure yesterday to at least put my views on sheets and print, but got the same message. I was not aware that Structure and Architecture share the same license file. I don’t think that is the case.

Did you run 2008 in trial mode on this PC? That might cause it to not alow a 2nd trail even if it is a new version of Revit. I suspect the 30 day trial mode is for "Revit" it does not care what flavor or version of Revit you are using. 30 days from the point you install Revit (any flavor, any version) the trial license will expire.

Wow, that is NOT a good way to get people to consider the product. Someone tries 2009 now, but decides that the economy really makes it a bad time to make the switch. Fast forward 18 months. The economy is better, RAC 2010 is out, and our intrepid Architect thinks "Hey, let's look at Revit again." But no, Autodesk says "Sorry buddy, we don't really want you to think about and evaluate our product again. You had your 30 days of Revit, maybe you should consider ArchiCAD instead?"
I can certainly understand only one 30 day test per version, but only one 30 day test EVER? Doesn't make sense.

best,
Gordon

Are you sure? That would be a change from how it used to work, IIRC. As pointed out, it would be a moronic policy.

Unless something's changed with the new version, reinstalling Windows won't work. When you activate the trial version, Autodesk records your hardware profile. If you try to activate the trial version again, Autodesk compares your hardware profile to it's database to see if that hardware has previously activated a trial version before.

Well, I think i'll have to reinstall Windows...

What I always find ironic about these things is that Autodesk spends more money and loses more business because of their "anti-piracy" infrastructure than they would lose if they just did away with all this utter nonsense. Go back to the good old days of a simple serial number and be done with it.
