Does anyone know how to or, a good work around for tagging elements in a linked file?

You can tag directly on the file itself. Then when when you link it, you can have the view set to show the linked file by linked view rather than by host view. All annotation, including tags created on the linked view will show.

Just a note: Since annotations are view specific, it will only work for plans and not for sections, etc.

Note that 2009 allows linked sections and elevations to show all their annotations...

It is good that RAC 2009 allows linking of section/elevation views so that we can finally achieve tagging of linked files by a somewhat clunky workaround (although I haven't tested it yet, but I assume that it is a clunky as the equivalent process for plan views).

But why can't we directly tag an object in a linked file in 2009. I believe that it made it into a beta version of 2008 but then vanished?

We can schedule objects in linked files; in 2009 we can even use the linework tool on linked files - (great, thanks to the factory for that ); but still no tagging - this feature could transform our workflow on large projects, and make life so much easier.

How do I link sections and elevations?

Thanks
