Well...who'd have thought you could have problems with hatches?!?!?
Anyway, I have produced 2 hatches to compare areas for a study I'm carrying out for light / shade proportions. I've produced 2 hatches. Properties of one shows an area; the properties of the other doesn't have the field-box showing at all.....anyone know why?
(This is after the frustration of having the hatches not stick to the selected boundaries ...and yes, they were all closed polylines with 0.0 Z values)
cheers

Can you post the said hatches in question?

What does "having the hatches not stick to the selected boundaries..." refer to? Are you saying the hatches are not associative? If that's the case you need to be aware that the associative property of a hatch and it's boundary is a toggle button inside the hatch dialog that needs to be clicked ON for associative hatches. if the boundary was hatched with this turned off, the hatch is separated from the boundary. It's easy enough to just inherit the old properties and rehatch though.

I am having the exact same problem with the hatch areas. The odd thing I noticed, was that if you click the hide/show arrows for geometry in the properties window when it scrolls open the area field is in there, but is grayed out. I also noticed that one hatch that did have the hatch area lost it after being modified. Also, recreating and or separating the hatch did not help. Did you ever find a solution?
EDIT:
The problem seems to be with overlapping vertices.....not sure why. If pickpoints are used rather than select objects to hatch the area then the problem disappears.
