Hey fellow Augi-teers! I am running into an interesting issue with all of the Navisworks 2009 software packages. I am installing Navisworks Manage (and Review and Simulate) on a Vista 64bit Ultimiate System. During the install, all the correct plugins are checked for Autocad 2008/2009 32 bit and 64bit. However when I try to open a dwg file in Navisworks (any of the packages) I am getting a "No plugins exist" error message.
I do not seem to have the same issue on Windows XP SP2 32bit.
On top of all the above that, when I go into Tools>Global Options>File Readers in Navisworks there is no dwg/dxf option in the list.
It is installing the exporter out of Autocad 2009 (NWCOUT), but I cannot natively read dwg files...So...has anyone else had this issue? I am thinking it is a 64bit issue, but I would like some validation before submitting to Autodesk.
I installed all software (Autocad 2008, 2009, Revit 2008, Revit 2009, 3D Max Design 2009) before installing Navisworks. And yes, I launched each program before install the Navisworks package.
Things I have tried;
1) Repair
2)Reinstall
3)Installing another Navisworks package (Review and Simulate)
4)Changing the install path from Program files (86x) to just program files
5) Searching the install DVD/CD for the plugin
6)Switching workspaces in Navisworks.
By the way, that is why I got a Vista 64bit box to begin with...so I could track down these issues before my customers ran into the same issues when they migrate to 64bit Vista or whatever the next MS release happens to be.
Thanks ahead of time for any input!
Best regards

I have not received the official release yet but I did have the exact same problem with the beta, I reported it during the beta and it's disappointing to see it hasn't been fixed. It may be related to 64 bit because I am using XP64. I would file a support request and I will do the same when I get the dvd.....

Thanks! That is what I thought myself, but a little validation is always in order before we run screaming to the development team!

So, for everyone reading this...currently there is no 64bit support (officially) for Navisworks 2009. It does work on a 64bit machine, but you cannot use the native dwg/dxf file readers to open a dwg file in Navisworks. You can however utilize the nwcout command from Autocad to get the files into Navisworks.

Autodesk does not have a 64 bit version out yet. If you install it on a 64 bit machine then it will not have the DWG\DXF import options. On a 32 bit - yes it will have that option. I've been through it all to my disgust! Dramage

got a question/idea... If I install Acad 2008 32bit on a 64 bit machine will that provide the plug in that NavisWorks needs?

No they removed the functionality from NavisWorks when installed on 64 bit

AutoCAD 2008 will not let you install the 32 bit version on the 64 bit OS. I tried and it keep telling me i had to use the 64 bit version.

Teresa,
Coincidence seeing you on here. I just got my new 64bit ridiculous machine and I'm hitting the same problem; have you heard any update?
Thanks,
Chris

Christopher,
See David's post (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=87523) on where to access the 64 bit DWG file reader.

Hey Chris.
Good to hear from you!
The 64bit should be out about now and is available from the subscription website.

Has anyone tried this 64bit version yet? I have just requested it from my reseller, should be a few days.

There is still not a 64 bit version, there is a 64 bit dwg reader though as I posted here http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=87523

oh no... here I was looking forward to it so much. I already have the 2009.1 release. Hangon, wasnt that 64 bit reader included in 2009.1? Didnt fix anything for me.
Come to think of it, 2009.1 came with the 64bit exporters (nwcout etc for 64bit acad)

No the 64 bit dwg reader is only available through the subscription center. The 64 bit exporters have been there since 2009, they are just for exporting to nwc from acad, the 64 bit reader allows you to natively open a dwg in navis.

Thanks for your reply. So from what you say, I wont gain anything. Half way through september I modified the msi install file to force it to install the lcdcop driver thingy or what ever it was called. So I have an install that does open dwg's already - only for 3 weeks later for autodesk to come out with the same thing (but only available to subscribers of a subscription - damn! If only the support that we pay for would inform me of this stuff - I gave them the link to this exact thread - Not to mention it should be available to everyone that has paid a bond - especially those that have written off over a hundred hours of work trying to get this version to work - all because support dont have 64 bit systems to test on.
Oh well, I cant complain, at least I can fix software issues before autodesk can - and I'm just a draftsman. Still, I am a bit disappointed this is only available to this subscription subscribers thingy - I will try to ask support about it.
This site is the best ever - I wouldnt have ever heard that this was available otherwise. Thanks.
(Sorry for the rant, but I want my excuse for support to see it.)

The 2004 x64 DWG reader works perfect on an XP system so my problem was resoved but I have a subcontractor who, for some unknown reason, wants to stay with his Vista x64 OS and the x64 DWG reader does not install on Vista.
Has anyone else seen this problem? If so, any suggestions besides the obvious one of going to XP?

I just switched to Vista x64 and it installed fine, so it's not the OS. Other than that tidbit I have no advice

Christopherri, I am confused - you mention '2004 X64 reader' - what is this?
Not many object enablers are 64 bit - I believe this is the problem you are faced with. I saw the same problem yesterday when a person asked me why navisworks could see prosteel members on a 32bit xp machine, but not on an inventor 2009 vista 64bit machine. My answer was - it's 64bit! the object enablers dont work on 64bit!
If this is the case, then you would need to install a 32bit version of autocad - I am the formost authority on the subject, if you would like a link then ask.
