I am trying to make an area legend. I know how to do one, but when I create it, I keep getting an extra field that I can't get rid of! There are only three areas shown, but 4 in the legend!

Maybe it is an "unplaced" area? just delete it if you don't have it in your project.
I think I read it too fast...I thought you meant the schedule..not the legend...but they are tied together...check the schedule of your areas, and if there are 4, then delete the one that isn't "placed"....hopefully this helps, Luigi

Are you referring to a color scheme legend?

One of the type properties for color fill legends is the Values Displayed parameter. It can be set to All or By View. Select the legend and then the properties button.
