I have a sheet numbering system that is causing me some sorting grief. What I need is sorting like this:

A131
A132...

A141.1
A142.1...

A141.2
A142.2...

What I get by default of course is
A131
A132...

A141.1
A141.2...

A142.1
A142.2...

The thing that is making my head hurt is that I have the two numbering schemes mixed together, some with decimals, some without, some more with. And currently I can't think of any way to sort other than just making a sort parameter and manually setting everything. Can anyone suggest a better solution? Please!? ;)

Thanks,
Gordon

If not a manual sort parameter, youll need another parameter to sort by... Namely whatever catagory is driving the decimals.

IE all of the AXXX.1 sheets are first floors, so make a sort field called Suffix, and they can all have the value of 1. Sort by Suffix (with header) and then by sheet number, and it should sort them.

But youre going to need another parameter to get manually put in...

I take the ;) to be that you want us to suggest changing the numbering system?

We use a matrix system where our sheets are A###, where A is the discipiline (duh!), and the 1st number assignes the Drawing Type (0 for Data, 1 for floor plans, 2 for elevations, etc), then the 2nd number assignes the floor level (0 for basement, 1 for 1st, etc. the Roof is immediately after the last floor level), the 3rd number is never 0

Anyways...something like that...

But there is no way to do what you are seeking other than by a sorting parameter
