Archive Revit files in a project

We are working on a large project (worksets) and would like to save old versions of the project for future reference. Our main user has created quite a mess with various central files (CF) being disconnected and such and not being able to open them w/o creating a new CF.

Do you just simply open and detach from Central and rename?

Main user! If your main user does that, what about the others?

If you select the Central File, copy it and paste on an Archive folder, it will be considered as a local file. As long as no one go to the archive folder and try opening it to work from there, there's no problem.

Just let you main user aware of that. :)
