Morning all....
I had this start happening yesterday. My properties dialog box and quick select are no longer working. The prop dialog box will open, but when I select anything in the drawing to change, check or whatever, it doesnt select. Also, when i try to use quick select, I get the message "no entities in this drawing to select". This happens in all the drawings I have opened too, not just one. Is there some variable somewhere that has changed somehow to cause this? Im using ACAD2000 on winNT (hoping for an upgrade VERY soon). Any suggestions on this one? I searched the Autodesk Knowledge base, but came up empty there.
Thanks for any and all suggestions on this one.
Paul

Hi
Have a read of the following translated web page -
Box of Properties dialogue does not function (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=pt&u=http://www.grapho.com.br/suporte/solucoes/exibir.asp%3FID%3DGS1169&prev=/search%3Fq%3D%2522no%2Bentities%2Bin%2Bthis%2Bdrawing%2Bto%2Bselect%2522%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8)
I honestly don't think it's the answer to your problem....
Do you have offer AutoCAD users in the office?
If yes, might want to try getting one of them to Export an AutoCAD profile (ARG), then Import & Set Current into your AutoCAD session.

You were right. That wasn't the answer. But a good try. Unfortunately, I am the only user here so cant import a good profile. I have a copy of mine elsewhere on my hard drive. Will import that one and see if it helps. Thanks for your input.
Paul
I imported my backup profile, but that didn't make any difference either. At a loss on this one, but will keep plugging away at it.
Thanks again

There is a patch on the adesk site relating to this problem in A2000i. I know because I had a similar problem after I reinstalled A2002 on Win 2000Pro.

Hi
What good does an AutoCAD 2000i update do an AutoCAD 2000 user?
ID: DL400087 - Object Properties Manager Update (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=2525855&linkID=2475161)
The below snippet is from the Readme file (http://adeskftp.autodesk.com/prodsupp/autocad2000i/utilities/OPM_Fix_Update.htm) -
<snip>
Note: When you run this utility, you will receive an error message under the following conditions:
If the product version is prior to AutoCAD 2000i or AutoCAD LT 2000i.
</snip>
Have you tried to repair your AutoCAD 2000 installation?

Mike,
Yea, I noticed that that patch wouldn't work below 2000i. As far as doing a "repair", not exactly sure what you mean. I don't have admin privileges either, and our IT guy is on vacation this week. Can AutoCAD be installed over itself? I know you used to be able to do that with win95,98 and it would refresh the files. Is this possible with AutoCAD or will it cause more problems than it would solve? I have some custom toolbars and drop downs that I use, but could always just reinstall those with no problems later. Not sure what to do at this point, so will just keep digging around and see if I can find something else. Going to be off tomorrow myself, so if I don't get it solved today, will just go at it again on Monday. Thanks for all your help!!

Hi
Give repair a try first, the following link is to the AutoCAD 2002 Service Pack 1 Readme file, it contains instructions on how to carry out a repair (the procedure should be near enough the same for AutoCAD 2000) -
Important Instructions for Repairing Your AutoCAD Installation (http://adeskftp.autodesk.com/prodsupp/downloads/Readme_SP1.htm) (4th sub heading from the top)
If you have to go for an uninstall then reinstall I would recommend you make sure you do a complete uninstall -
ID: TS27695 - Completely uninstalling AutoCADĀ® 2000 or 2000i software from the hard disk (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=2869736&linkID=2475323)

Thanks Mike for the links.
I have another problem that is probably related to the first one. When I try to use some of my express tools, I get an error message, (in the command line), error: Automation Error. No Database. This doesn't come up with all of the Express Tools, just some of them. Weird... I looked in Autodesk support files for this too, but didn't come up with anything that looked relevant. I'm thinking the best thing might be to just uninstall and reinstall. Any shoves in the right direction here? and thanks for the links you gave me earlier too....they got me going looking at some other things, but so far no go. ( I'm trying to avoid a reinstall if you cant tell......)
thanks again

Hi
I honestly think it would be a lot easier in the long run, just to bite the bullet and perform a complete uninstall / reinstall.
