It seems I've stumbled across a problem by a slip of a finger. I usually do a quick-save by clicking Ctrl-S. I missed the 's' key and hit Ctrl-A. I got a message on the command line: "_ai_selall Selecting objects...done." Now, entities aren't ghosting when I pick them. How can I fix this?

The HIGHLIGHT setting is an old one for showing which entities are selected. I can remember it from r9. Turning it on will make selected entities appear dashed and highlighted - turning it off will not make the appearance of any selected entities change (so you won't be able to see which entities you've selected). I don't really know why Adesk made this, maybe for performance?
Anyway, the CTRL+A is a keyboard shortcut for AI_SELALL, which in turn is a command for selecting all the entities in the current drawing. If your drawing is very full, this could be a bad thing to do.

Also, check out options, then the selection tab. Then click on "visual effect settings". There, you can turn off that stupid indicate selection area color thing. Also, you can choose dashed, thicken, or both for your selection preview. I prefer dashed only. Thicken bugs me. :|
