Raster Plot dpi

I set up a raster plotter to plot my dwgs to a tiff file. I noticed that I am unable to switch the resolution past 100 dpi. Why is that? Is there some method to increase the resolution of the raster plotters that come woth AutoCAD? Is there freeware raster plotters that I could download somwhere?
