View Full Version : Linked File Pathing issues

We have some projects that use linked Revit files. And in those projects, many of the elements in the linked files are tagged in the host file.

Our server drive crashed the other day and we had to use a backup drive. All of our central files had to be re-saved as central files - no big deal... except for the fact that in the process, the links became unloaded... again, not a big deal except for the fact that on every sheet where a linked element was tagged, the tag is now gone and has to be re-created. THAT is a big deal.

How do we fix this issue? What if I send a central file to a client? Archive the project and then open it a year from now on a different drive? What can we do to prevent the links from becoming disassociated with the project and the tags from disappearing?

thank you!

If sending the central file to a client, you will have to send the linked files too and make sure that on File > Manage Links > Revit > Path type is set to Relative. Then even if you change drives, if you keep the same folder names and structure, you shouldn't have problems.
