Detail Views from RCP

I'm trying to do a detail view callout in an RCP but revitonly lets be chose to create an actual RCP callout. Can anyone verify this is a limitation in the software?

Just tried it in 2008, and indeed you can only create a Ceiling Plan callout type, no Detail Views.

I think the problem is that detail callouts don't have view range. Floor plan callouts have. That being said, you can't say to a detail callout that the view has a different view range. If it is a floor callout you can and that's why they work. RCP have a different view range than floor plans.

If you want to have a detail callout on a RCP, you can create one on a floor plan, cut it and paste aligned on the current view (paste on your RCP). You will see your detail callout there, but since you can't change its view range, it is useless...
