I remember this being a discussion a year or two ago...has anyone come up with a solution?

I have an existing toposurface and a new toposurface. My view is set to new phase but when I create the subregion is warns me that the "subregion must have same Phase Created parameter as host toposurface...Subregion will be set to match toposurface" It then puts my subregion on the Existing phase and disappears from view since it is set to new phase.

There must be a way to control which topo phase a subregion is hosted by, no?

These tools leave a lot to be desired...

From what i've seen the answer is no. In the current projects my firm has going we choose to only subregion the new construction topo and if required draw lines on the existing or use the .dwg underlay.

We also leave this topo sculpting until very later in our initial modelling, once everything has settled down.

If your subregion sketch line is up against a Toposurface border, try offsetting the subregion sketch line in a bit from the border, it worked for me.
Now if I can just muddle my way through the rest of the mass frustration the site tools offer.:banghead:

I'm having the same problem but the other way around. I want to add a subregion to my existing toposurface but the fase is always set to match the new one. And moving a sketch line away from the border of the toposurface doesn't help me.
