We would like to save paper in the office and find a way to do redlines electronically, but still be able to highlight and make notes for each other as if we were still writing them down on paper.

Does anyone do their redline work or markups electronically? If so what do you use and how well does it work?

Revit has the ability to produce DWF files. These can be brought into other Autodesk program(s) and marked up. Then they can be brought back into Revit, and the markups be visible. This way someone can see the markup while working on the sheet it pertains to. I've seen this demonstrated, but not actually done it.

Yeah I've heard a little about that same technique just the other week. That was one of the things that I wanted to test out maybe on smaller project to see how well it would work in the office. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't any easier ways or anything.

Thanks

Go get Autodesk Design Review (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=4086277)....it's FREE! Export Sheets from Revt to DWF. Open them in Design Review and mark them up and save. Then Link the DWF Markup back into Revit (under File>Import). The markups you made show up in Revit on the sheets, and have properties you can change or add comments to.

Just as Scott says - Publish from Revit, markup in Design Review, link markup set back to Revit, complete markups and set status to "Done" (or other), save markup set, reviewer can see what has been completed without opening Revit. This is how we do it, and we are working with local agencies to se about plan checks with DWF.

We have been doing this as well and I really like it, but there are a few improvements that need to be made:
1) There should be a print option that allows you to not print your sheets without printing the linked markup files.
2) We have had problems when someone has the markup set open in Design Review while people are changing the status of a markup in Revit.
3) It would be very nice if there was a way that design review could work like revit in the sens e that multiple people could be in one multi-sheet dwf file at the same time. Right now when multiple people open it up, it read-only to everyone but one person.
4) How do you get it to highlight redlines that are 'done' in Revit? When we make a redline 'done', they show up highlighted in design review, but not in revit.

Has anyone using the markups feature had problems saving the Revit file after making changes? The process of exporting to design review, marking up, and linking back to Revit works great. However, about 70% of the time, when we change the status of the markup in Revit (i.e. "done") and try to save, revit responds with the error "can't modify imported file". We're being very careful to close the Design Review instance first, but still get this problem. I've also noticed that Revit does not report the review .dwf in the "Manage Links --> DWF Markups" dialog. Should I see the file listed here? Maybe Autodesk will work out all these kinks in the new version.....
