Binding links - no phasing?

I have a building created as a separate file, and I would now like to bring that building into my main file. I tried copying/pasting all existing and new elements from a 3D view, but everything pasted into the phase my 3D view was set on (New Construction).

So I tried linking in the file, and then binding the link, and I got the same result. Everything existing, demolished, and new from the linked file is now shown as New Construction once I bound and ungrouped the link. Why is phasing not preserved when binding a link?

Everything existing and new showed correctly when it was just a link. I want it all in one file because I will have a bridge over a street connecting this building and another, and I just want everything in one place for ease of documentation.

Anything created in a view will be set to that view's phase.

You might be able to bring it in properly by matching up your phases, and bringing in the elements phase by phase. I think you'll have to re-demolish any elements demolished in the linked file....
