We are just now in the process of testing 2009 on our system here and I'm wondering if anyone out there know is there are any disadvantages to placing the rendering folder on the network in a read only folder, as oppose to the local hard drive? My IT personel is worried that if an upgrade to the rendering engine, or any type of fix regarding the rendering folder for that matter occurs, they will be stuck upgrading 100 plus computers in the office. Any insight to this matter is appreciated.

I haven't tested it myself but I also advised it to do it that way. The only protection on the local drive is that the files are set to read only.

If I am not mistaken Revit copies the textures to the project file? I thought I read that somewhere.
