View Full Version : Recent Topic list not scroll

Hi Chris Z,

Is there any way the recent topics could be seen all at once instead of having them scroll? What I find is that often I don't have time to read all the new topics so when I log in back to the site I have to keep waiting for the ones I didn't get to read to come around. I have to keep doing this for every topic I missed. If it was a fixed list I could just immediately click on the one I wanted. Does this make sense?

Thanks for this great site.

Henry,

Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, but if you click on "posts since last visit", ( Home page, below your avatar ) you get a full list of all new posts.

Beegee and Chris,

Just seeing if things can be more efficient.

What happens is: I log on and there are maybe "20 posts since last visit" under my Avatar. I may only have time to read 5 before logging off. So the next time I log on the 15 posts I didn't get to read will now be under recent topics and not under posts since last visit. So I have to go to the scrolling recent topics list, and as I get further down the list the longer it takes for the next topic to come up.

Since no one else seems mind - it's gotta be me, that must be why my Avatar says "I wanna be sedated"!

OK, I understand the problem. I have that happen too. It would be cool if the board remembered that you did not actually view all the posts, so that next visit it listed all those new and not viewed yet. :)

I doubt very much that thats possible though. Never mind.

When i do that, I perform a search with a * for author, and switch to posts from "last day". It'll list all the recent posts for the last 24 hours in chronological order.

I think Zoog could have it remember read/unread between sessions, but it would probably be some kind of cookie.

Hard to do...this whole board is made from phpbb templates and mods, I don't think Zoog is actually sitting around hand-coding php scripts, so custom stuff like that might be a bit more work than it seems.

I have issues with losing my place when the forum refreshes and I lose track of which posts are read/unread...but I'm greatful for the wonderful bb here and can deal with the search method listed above...that's a good tip, Thanks!

Zoog, can you program a new button to perform the "search all authors from the last day" function?

I'll post my search tip tomorrow....

You are not alone. I actually came to this forum to start a thread on this very issue when I came across this post. Beegee and Chris, any progress toward having the website remember which posts were actually viewed vs. just "posts since last visit"? It's a small thing but it would be nice.

It can be done. But, it's far from simple.

Chris is changing Noah right now, but he'll get back to with more detail, soon as.

I noticed that some blank space has been added to the top of the "recent posts" list. Makes it much easier to select the top post, which always used to start scrolling past too quickly to select. Thanks for the useful little tweak.
