It would be nice to have a camera or "view point" annotation that can show which way a camera is looking in Plans. My boss is always asking me to put a symbol in to show where a view is taken from.

How about a camera icon family, that could be placed on a sheet, similar to the icon that pops up when one places or modifies a camera view, and that would have labels similar to other views, pointing to the sheet location of the view.

got my vote! I'm tired of creating generic annotations for the "viewpoint"

I'd love to be able to have any of my 3D views used as referenced views in plan. The ability to place a camera on the plan and have that camera icon linked to the 3D view it creates would be really handy for client presentations (plotting to PDF or DWF where the links are maintained).
All I want is a new callout category which has no other use except being a link to any view, plan, elevations, section or 3D.

Uh huh...having just spent some time doing a rendering, I kept thinking how useful that camera could be if only it were accessible. I would have liked to use it for design review to show the city some shots from some defined locations. Combine that with site snapshots and you've got a pretty handy site study. Of course, this could be done without a specific tool, but it would make this kind of stuff easier...the whole point of revit, or so I understand. :D

I''ve tried everything I can to get this to work but the underlying problem is the fact that none of the 'referencing' families (elevations, sections, callouts etc.) can reference anything but a planar view or a drafting view.
The only workaround I've come up with is to save the view as an image, re-import into a drafting view and then use a modified callout tag to reference the view. Most everything else is so elegant in Revit that it seems way too kludgy to have to do that.

After recently completing a large master plan with camera views from all over the site placed on another sheet, I found myself wishing for a tag or annotation of some sort that could be placed on the plan showing the detail number and a directional arrow indicating where each view was taken from and looking toward. I got irritated that I couldn't even see where the dang camera was unless I right-clicked on the view name in the design bar and clicked "show camera". Even then it disappeared when I started another command.
I imagine it would just be the same type of annotation as a callout or an elevation marker...same principle, at least.

I agree its a pain but you can make up your own arrow to at least show point of origin & direction of view

This seems like a particularly easy wish to implement. I'm definitely for this one. Most clients need their hands held every step of the way.

Similar in concept to what I suggested a while back, therefore I believe this is brilliant idea

Client wants to know where the views are taken from - I have to approximate and draw detail lines, would like to show camera location and direction and leave this on.

I merged four earlier threads dating back to January 2004 into this wish...apparently it is a popular concept?

I should probably do a search for previous wishes I suppose!! thanks for doing that Steve :)

Imagine how much time it would take to merge all the similar threads together...which is one reason to have a "master wishlist" we could all view...
I could see each item linking to its own thread and a voting or ranking for each item based on feedback within the thread and this would constantly update based on its rank within the list. I imagine it would be an extremely valuable resource for AutoDesk to see what their users are looking for in a product.

We hope to accomplish something like you describe. In any case we are pursuing options to make the wishlist better at serving "us" and "them". I recall David Conant saying last year that it took a good couple of days to compile the wishes stored here into a meaningful list that they could use in planning sessions. I'd love to make this easier for them. Anything to make it easy to get what we want sooner. Now if the wishlist could also generate the code!!

[Mod edit: merged this post into this existing wish]

Is there some kind of tag or symbol that can be placed on a floor plan that indicates (and is linked to) perspective views (similar to an elevation tag)?

For example, I had a sheet with a floor plan and several perspectives for a client presentation... but there's was no indication on the plan where the perspective shots were taken from. So, I went in and manually added a symbol, but as soon as I changed around the perspective views, I had to go back and manually change my symbols... not very revit like.

Am I missing something obvious or does this feature not exist yet?

Thanks, irusun.

[EDIT: sorry for another duplicate thread on this subject - in my defense, I did do a couple of forum searches before posting, but I guess I didn't use the right key words because this thread didn't turn up...]
