How can I set the default structural usage for a wall type?
For instance, by default, I want all my walls to be drawn with the structural usage set to "Bearing".

I don't believe this is possible, but it would be nice to have a Type parameter under the Construction group to default this Structural Usage parameter on a per wall basis, and then have it change to an instance parameter. Or even an option on the Options Bar before drawing the wall.

I've run into this need as well for walls, I think I have this defined in my default walls project container, but I'm not sure if it comes over that way when I copy and paste.
That options bar would run off the screen if I had everything I wanted to see up there.:)

Good excuse to get a widescreen display.

We seem to get caught out a lot on this issue.
mainly to do with when our (Arch) model is then linked into the structures model.
Would be nice to be able to set this to default and not rely on the user to remember

In the Design bar.
If you use the structural TAB then use "structural walls" this will automatically set it to Bearing.
The walls command produces non bearing walls. either basic or modelling tab.
I hope they don't set this up a type parameter as it would double our workload creating bearing and non-bearing types of the same wall all over the place to make up for load points and analysis areas on certain wall areas.

That's good to know - thanks for pointing that out.
Unfortunately that's too unwieldy. After all the time I would spend changing to the structural tab every time I wanted to draw a wall, I'd be better off just changing all of them at once when needed.
What's really frustrating is that it's already "there" as a parameter, it's just grayed out.
Just another one of a million things that needs to be addressed.

Yeah it is abit of a pain, but setup through the keyboard shortcuts and there are no issues.
As for the parameter I am abit confused by what you mean, which parameter in the walls is greyed out??

I don't think they make screens that wide, plus it might be a bit unhandy moving my mouse halfway across my deksk:cry:
I know this don't answer the original question (well that answer was pretty much a 'no') or offer a decent work around. But another tool to help see which is which is to use the filters.

If you select the wall tool and then go to its properties before you start drawing the walls, you can change various "instance" parameters to a default setting - the "structural usage" is shown but grayed out.
Unfortunately on this one, there is no "work-around" etc. that is going to make me happy... any kind of "work-around would defeat the whole point of it being a "default".
Thanks all for your thoughts and suggestions.
