constraints using ref planes

is there a way to use ref planes for constrains
creating all these levels seems over kill
plus a big hassle in the elevations sheet

the speific app here is using the top of peirs as a constraint for posts.

still in first grade with Revit

You can use ref planes to create constraints. you can even constrain objects to other objects if you like. The best tool to accomplish constraints like this is the "align" tool. Use align to set up a relationship and then click the "lock" icon to constrain the relationship between the objects.

this seems ok with a single item

but in modifying a group
in element properties.
don't see ref planes listed in constraints just levels

if you have to move a whole set of posts up just 6" that would be nice.
especially with ref planes all over the place

You should only be using level for the main building floor levels and maybe a few - very few - structural levels. Everything elese should be set relative to the main floors. Using levels to constrain everything in an elevation can lead to problems.

For documenting heights use the spot elevation tool. It can look like a level target but doesn't get into all the issues of having too many levels.

ok...

so you mean use offsets from levels to provide constraints for structural elements that are not going to a level

so all a named group would just adjust if the offset is changed
