Please correct me if I am trying to do this the wrong way. I am trying to model an auditorium; underneath the bowl-shaped slab is a tunnel created from precast concrete boxes. I've attached the drawing that the precast company put together. I created a custom family for the boxes which I have also attached.

I am putting the boxes in the model as I need to, but as you can see from the image the floor of the tunnel changes slopes. The floor starts flat but changes slope...I can't get the family to rotate to the slope of the floor. I tried changing the category of the model but that was ineffective.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Try nesting your family into a floor based family.

Then be sure to go to "Settings/Family Categories & Parameters" and uncheck the "always vertical" box.

Save & load your new family.

That should solve it.

I think your problem is under the "Family Category and Paramerers" dialog box.
When i unchecked the "Always Vertical" option on your Generic Model family and reloaded it into project, the Precast elements already located aligned themselves to my sloped floor automatically... pretty cool.

I completely forgot about that checkbox...thanks guys! One quick problem, the precast boxes are what make up the floor so there isn't a floor for them to be hosted to? I'd like to rotate them free of any hosted floor if it is possible but I always get the error "can't rotate element into this position"

I would create a free floating object, not floor hosted.
I wonder if you can array to follow a path... or line host a nested family..?
