sky in rendering?

I thought there was a way to put a sky background in 2008 when you render, is this possible in 2009?

Note while you render, only after, Mental ray uses a sky to create the lighting, then you save your image out as a .png file, then you can place any jpg you want behind it, either in photoshop or in revit by bringing in your background image, then bringing in your rendering and place on top. It works very well.
