First off, sorry for another shared coordinates post.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I've never been able to figure out the shared coordinates. Here's the situation: I am currently modeling the architecture of a project primarily for export to Navisworks. The structural engineer modeled the structure in RS. I need the separate files to share the same origin so they will import into Navisworks with no moving required. I've got a separate Revit file for the site, the interiors, the enclosure, and the structure model. I'm looking at 4 different models (minimum). I'd like to link each model into the site model as the host. I've got the origins worked out for all of my architectural models but the structural model is off.

My process has been this:

Link structural model
move to desired position
publish coordinates to the structural model
save (prompt for saving structural model too)

When I open the structural model and export it into Navisworks, the origin still isn't right. I've inserted an origin dwg file to see where it is and it never seems to move. Any ideas? What am I doing wrong?

When you export are you selecting the pulldown under export options for shared instead of internal coordinates?

My experience has been that NavisWorks does not understand Revit Shared Coordinates. Every project that I have ever exported to NavisWorks that utilized Shared Coordinates has required manual tweaking/relocation once it is loaded into a NavisWorks "assembly model".

Hopefully all along I've just missed a setting somewhere and someone else will chime in with a solution or nudge in the right direction.

Scott, I am not aware of any coordinate choices when exporting to NavisWorks. There is only one option available under "Tools > External Tools (in 2008 Revit) and that is NavisWorks Jetstream 5. The export command from 2009 Revit to NavisWorks 2009 has a number of expanded options but I don't see any for Shared or Internal Coordinates. But, like I said above - maybe I'm just missing a setting, pickbox or switch somewhere.

That's what I've been finding. There is no option in the Navisowrks export for coordinates. It looks like I'll just have to move them in Navisworks into the correct position...no real big deal, I just wanted to automate it somehow.

Thanks for your input.

Mitch,

Just as a side note, there is a NavisWorks forum here on AUGI where you can direct any NavisWorks related questions.

The export dialog I was speaking of was export to cad not navisworks. I didnt even know there was an export to navisworks directly.
