I have looked for and cannot find a trapezoid window family that can have variables for width, height, and slope on one side. I have tried to make one starting from an existing fixed window family and changing one side to an angle but I can't make it work properly. The width and height can be changed but the rise on the sloped side remains the same, even giving it a formula for the slope. I put in reference planes on the slope side and they change with the formula but when I align and lock the window to the sloped reference planes it is over constrained.

Just make a width for the top and a width for the bottom. I wouldn't try to control it with an angle. Once you get the opening to flex, then add the additional geometry usint the pick tool to lock it to the opening.

What I'm after is vertical sides, square bottom and a sloped top that can change to match a roof pitch.

I would recommend starting with a clean slate. The OOTB windows have some hard restraints and are sometimes puzzling to deconstruct.

Like this...
I'd add in some error control as this family will fail when the slope is equal to or less than the angle of the width/height of the window....

Aaron,

When I try to change the angle or the slope it says it cannot rebuild the geometry.

Sorry,

I was putting in an angle beyond your error control. My window will actually have the slope on the top but it should work the same. After I get the opening to work properly what is the easiest way to fit a window to it?

Just had to fuss with this one....
Attached is error controled. When the angle is wrong - it is reset to 90. Another option would be to increase the width of the window.

Just build the window using the edges of the opening. A sweep for the frame would work the best... You don't need to lock much stuff - it should all follow the reference lines and planes.

can you please explain the slope parameter.

The slope parameter allows you to type in a X to 12 value to have that converted to an angle.

This is the shape I need but it is just not working for me?

is this one working for you?
