First let me explain what a journal is...then you can decide to delete it...or let's say...keep less journals?
Everytime you start Revit, a journal is written. As the name implies, it creates a journal of your every move. It is a journal of your every move.... Let's say you crash in the middle of working in revit...without saving... you can take the created journal file and drag it on top of the revit icon....this will basically tell revit to complete that journal...from beginning to end....but it won't crash.... now for this to work, many things need to be as close to the time you started the revit session...meaning that you might have to rename your files to make sure that the journal is opening the similar state of the files....Anyways...this isn't a supported feature...but it has helped me a few times....
Also if there are crashing issues, the journal file helps autodesk to figure out what went wrong...
So you can delete them, but they will keep re-appearing....there is an option to limit the amounts of journals to keep....it is found in the options menu...

Would this also work to rebuild what was lost if your power glitches?
Also where would I find this magic journal file to do the repair? (could have used it yesterday)

Yes...anything that stops revit...power outage, or a plain ol' crash...
The journal file is found in the location where Revit is installed...usually in the Program files
Just to make sure...Most likely Revit needs files to be as they were before the journal was created...it is basically openable with any text reader (word, notepad, or wordpad...)if you look for dates and times in the beginning, you will have reassurance of what file you might need to recover....especially since you might have saved a few times before your power outage...
If you search you will find a few threads about the process of using a journal file to recover (or re-create) your work...
