Does anyone know of a means of getting longitudinal & Latitudinal co-ordinates from a cad dwg? I've been told this is nigh on impossible but I now have a need to do so for shipping in a harbour.
Thanks.

was that cad drawing produced by a surveyor
is it on a coordinate system like NAD83?

If so, then I could get you Lat and Long with
Land Desktop and MAP quite easily

Hi

From an Autodesk product point of view you would have to go with something like -

Civil 3D
Map
LDT
....

78 Results for "Longitude & Latitude" from the Autodesk web site (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/usearch?qt=latitude&rq=1&oq=longitude&la=en&siteID=123112&id=2088334&nh=10&rf=0&col=dotcomus&col=usupport&qp=site%3Aautodesk.com+site%3Ausa.autodesk.com)

+

ID: TS68934 - Format for exported DXF files (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=2864923&linkID=2475323)

Have a good one, Mike

Thanks for your suggestion.
As far as I know, the dwg is in standard autocad format with the ucs being set to the world co-ords. Does the prog you mention accept cad dwgs and generate Lat/Long co-ords from it, or does the info have to be input as raw data such as from a survey?

Thanks.
Bob.

World coordinates are fine, given there are any sort of
Public Lands monuments, or other survey monumentation
shown in the drawing. If so then it would be possible to
perform the required transformation to get it onto Lat Long.
