tape measure not working in elevation

anyone ever have the tape measure stop working in elevation? I was working away in this file, and suddenly the tape measure tool just gives me the "you can't do that" circle in elevation. I even defined a workplane, even though it shouldn't matter, and it still won't do it. Works fine in plan, though...

Did you actually try to use it? What I mean is, did you go ahead and try to pick some points even though you see the "do not enter" sign.

I have seen this icon come up a few times in error. I can still pick items and the tool works as expected.

Check to see if your elevation is not "exact" parallel to the wall/surface. This will often cause items to cease functioning.

Have you rotated any elevation markers in plan view?

I have noticed in the past that detail lines stopped working after it did this and it could be the same for the tape measure tool. Try resetting the workplane to a plane that is parallel to the view plane.

Another solution, is to create a new elevation in place of the old, which often resets any similar issues.
