Translucent hatch patterns

I'm currently using AutoCAD 2008 Land Companion and I'm wondering how to create a translucent hatch over an aerial. Some number of years ago I used M-Color to do this and I know AutoCAD has not been able to do this in the past by itself... but remain hopeful there is a way now.
