View Full Version : Wall Height Tag or note

Is there a Revit'ish like way to note wall heights in a plan view? I've tried spot elevations but seems it's definately not going to cut it as you can't spot top of walls above cut planes.
This seems to be an issue of that's the way we've always done it voiced as "I see problems with not noting the wall height on plan." I'd like avoid placing manual structural notations on a floor plan when we have another drawing/software to do structural things. The concern seems to be if one person lays out the original design and doesn't not special wall heights, it will get missed when the structural portion of the house is done at a later date by the same or different person.

Go to your plan view, change the view range top and cut planes to something higher than the wall (or at least matching the op of the wall) and then you can add a spot elevation to tag the wall height. Once it is done, change back your view range to be as it was before and Revit will still show the tag with the wall height.
I hope it helps,

What if you change the wall height, will the tag update automatically?

Yes, it will.

Hmmm... Interesting. I might be able to work with that. Although a bit cumbersome to be switching view settings back and forth. Very nice tip none the less. Only thing better would be a tool specific to walls and be able to show total height as well as and elevation.

You could create two view templates with the different view depth settings and alternately apply them. That would streamline the view setting switch a bit, especially if you have multiple levels.
This wall height tag idea is generally very appealing . . .

you could also add Plan Regions around the walls you want to tag and set the view range of them above the top of the walls and then use spot elevations.

Having the height parameter (or at least the upper and lower contraints) as a parameter that you could place in a wall tag would be an amazing solution, in my opinion.
Be careful with the spot elevations. I *THINK* (and i could be wrong) that if you switch the view to tag the top of the wall, and then switch the view back, youre spon annotations are going to vanish or read from the cut plane. I dont believe they will keep the upper wall height if the view isnt currently showing it...

Aaron,
Check this, then. (attached)
You can change the wall height and the cut plane as you want.

I thought the same thing when I first tried it... After playing with it a bit...You simply need to make sure the spot elevation symbol is set to display the "Actual (Selected) Elevation" up in the options bar.
