I'm trying to do a concrete takeoff from the Revit model. Everything is coming in fine except the thickened slab edges. They are modeled using the slab edge sweep and show up correctly in 3d. Does anyone have any experience with material takeoffs and slab sweeps? Please let me know.
Thanks

Has no one else run into this? It seems like a decent problem. I've submitted a CSR about it, we'll see if I hear anything back.

Haven't run into that issue or any similar take off issues simply becuase we export the revit data to do a quantity take-off in another application and the data for slab edges comes through as a length and volume as is shown in the Revit object properties. I think you'll find your request to be an "enhancement" request. But seems clearly an shortfall of Revit when material takeoff's want to be done internal to the Revit application.

I just got an e-mail back from Autodesk saying that revit doesn't schedule slab edges right now but is being considered (whatever that means!).
What is your process for exporting to another program? Which program do you use?

Revit data is exported through ODBC and then we developed a custom software that uses the MDB file as input in order to map items and calculations in order to produce a large percentage of a bill of material.
Being considered means it's on their radar, but you won't get a commitment to a time line. It could be next release or it could be 5 releases (or never). There are always things of higher priority to address. You need a lot of people to submit CSR's to get the priority to move up.

Sounds fancy and expensive to start up...thanks for the input!

You have very good hearing.:) except for the fancy part

You can also use an application like Innovaya (www.innovaya.com I think...). We use it to link to our Timberline cost database, and it takes slab edges out just fine as well.

Are you using the Revit-Innovaya-Timberline workflow for concrete only? Our concrete estimating is done with MC2 and the rest is in excel. So as of now we are extracting quantities from the model and manually inputting them into the excel estimate. It would be nice to pick your brain a little...

Aahh, ****! Another half-baked feature that hasn't been finished in 2010. Just came across this issue and was hoping I was doing something wrong. I don't know why this would just be being considered, given it is just as important to schedule as the slab and footing.
So much for being able to extract data from a BIM application. Hang on, maybe the new UI can do this for me.

Just came across this now in Revit 2011, still not appearing in the material takeoff. Is it still being considered...? :|
