Revit 2009 comes with several IES web file definitions. However I cannot find what sort of light source each file is supposed to define... is there a legend that maps the file name to the lamp type anywhere?
for example ... what is a 461T5_S.ies

So... no one has any idea about this? It makes them a bit unusable...????

again I ask, does anyone know what the naming format is, or is there a legend anywhere?

if you open the IES file in Notepad it should give a description of the source etc.....

I use a IES viewer that someone suggested in one of the posts, but alas my Mac had to get it's video card replaced. Will post viewer name next week when i get my computer back if no-one has by then.
You can also use this program to change or modify IES files to suite your light.

Usually the bigger lighting manufacturers allow you to download specific IES files.
I remember ringing up some manufactures years ago asking then if they had IES files - some of them didn't even know what a IES file was......
Ultimately, if you find afew good one's - stick with them. At one stage we had 11k ies files but we really only used between 5-10 files.
Remember that the light distribution will give accurate representation with distances greater than 1m - well, thats what a lighting designer told me.....
