how are hidden lines displayed of generic models in plan view
I am using them as soffits

Here's how I like to handle dashed lines for soffits...
On my plan, turn on an underlay.
Right click > view properties > Select Underlay of my current level.
Set Underlay Orientation to be "Reflected Ceiling Plan."
Now, you should be able to see your ceiling elements on your floor plan, but they should be grayed out, (half tone).
Select the Linework Tool (see attached).
Select <Hidden> as a line style.
Then on your Underlay view, click on the edges of your soffit that you want to be dashed.
Once you have selected them all, turn off the underlay. Notice, the edges that you have used linework will remain visible, even though the underlay is off.
This way, when things move on your ceiling, your floor plan will always be coordinated.
