View Full Version : Dimensioning wall at angles
I tried to dimension an entire wall (including the openings) today, but because the wall is at an angle other than 0,90,180,270 and 360, I am unable to so. Is this correct behavior? It seems that the "entire wall" function of the dimension tool should pick up on the wall end points regardless of its angle. It is quite possible that I overlooked something, but I tried this several times and got the same result - no dimension.
Anybody else experiencing this?

I had no problems using the "entire wall" option on an angled wall. The attached image is a wall at 19 deg.
There might be something else going on with your particular condition or file.
I too was able to dimension to a single wall. The issue seems to come into play when you have more than one wall coming together at angles other than 90, say 130. This seems to be causing the problem.

Yes I see what you are saying now. It can do all the stuff in the middle of the wall but does not dimension the corner if an angle other than 90. I am not a developer but I suspect this is a limitation because to pick up the ends you really have to dimension to a "point" the entire wall routine is not set up to find that point.
Looks like one for the wishlist. :-)

How about you dimension the whole wall (openings, any perpendicular walls, etc.) but without ends and then manually add these end points by "Edit Witness Lines" tool?
This method still wouldn't work if the wall is plain - i.e. without any openings and/or other perpendicular walls, since the only two defining points couldn't be picked up automatically, but that would be the only exemption...

The problem is when there are walls connected with the ends of the wall in angle. If there's no wall connected the "Entire Walls" function works even if the wall is plain. A workaround is to "unconnect" the walls at the ends (by dragging its blue dots), add the "entire wall" dimension and them trim/extend the walls back to their original condition.
But it is still an item to be reviewed by Autodesk.
