saveas and keep open orig file

I am trying to copy an existing file with the same name to a new location but keep the original file open and close the copy. I tried as a script but it does not seem to work for me. Can someone point me in the right direction? This what is have so far:

There was a routine I found on Augi over the past few weeks that
creates a duplicate of the existing file for archiving prior revisions.
