There have been several posts on this issue with a number of suggestions that do not solve the problem. The OpenGL suggestion from April did not work for us.

Attached is a screenshot with my support request and the definitive answer. Instead of pressing the F key, your alternate solution is to take a break, get a cup of coffee, and come back in a minute or two. This also works and gives you an excuse to wander around and bother everyone else.

If we all remember to contact Support with problems, it might help get this stuff into Known Issues :p

Phylis, thank you for posting this. This problem has been driving me crazy for some time now & I hadn't been able to make the connection with Pantone. The only solution I had for this was to save/close/re-open the drawing. This gets old pretty fast.
Hopefully this will be solved soon.

You're fabulous, Phyllis!

I just had somebody come up to me this morning with a big long explanation about a weird bug he was having. I told him, "I just read about the fix for that yesterday!"

Thanks so much for posting.

I have had this problem when Microsoft outlook is also running. Were you also running outlook at the time of the freeze? It doesn't seem to be related to Open GL, and I was able to issolate it down to some sort of driver conflict with MS outlook. Upgrading to Pantone Colorist has eliminated the error for me but as I recall closing outlook brings back the keyboard. That's a lot quicker than reopening your Revit file.

so THAT'S what is doing it...

As I run Vista 64 I'd assumed it was an OS problem and been resetting the keyboard clock in the bios and all sorts of needless things  ;)

Excellent bit of detective work

...closing outlook brings back the keyboard.

Probably Autodesk don't want you e-mailing them about the keyboard issue when it happens...

How do I upgrade to Pantone Colorist? Is there a cost associated with upgrading?

Thanks in advance,

Bryan

I am running 64 bitXP and getting it, so it must be a 64Bit thing.

Colorist, It came on a CD with our Pantone color index (but has the release date 2003 so it might be more of a downgrade- amazing how many times downgrades fix things). You can look here:
http://www.pantone.com/pages/pantone/Pantone.aspx?pg=19567&ca=12 But I don't see it there, looks like they are calling it "huey." Mine's working so I don't want to upgrade anymore though.

The problem is not isolated to 64 bit systems. We have two systems in our office that have the same problem and there still running 32 bit XP.

Definitely not isolated to the processor/OS (64 v 32). Thank you for posting that you have found the same. It's quirky, at best, and occurs if you interact with the Pantone selector or not, just clicking on Pantone button and exiting it appears will freeze the keyboard. For those of us who puzzled for a moment over our memories of grade school where the "F key" meant the "Function" key, in this instance, when it happens, it literally fixes by hitting the letter F after clicking inside any given view...

I may have an alternative solution. Visit a website to lookup RGB values for Pantone colors. If there's a color you're giong to need more often save it to your pallette.

The devies are looking to address it in a future build. If Autodesk outsourced it's tech support then they only care about responding to and documenting as much issues as possible, as callcenters get paid on that basis. At least that was true for McAfee support when I used to work there for two days.

Many support desk employees don't care much for actually solving your problem, if not for that warm and fuzzy feeling they get and that's on a good day. I'm telling this from a mixture of personal experience and bitter feelings. All I can say is that the response to your issue has been adequate. They can't suggest unsupported 3rd party fixes like the one above.
