G'day fellow Reviteers...
This problem have been bugging me for a while but I keep on forgetting about it when I finish working around it...

For stairs, sometimes the arrows doesn't show up right.. or doesn't show up at all.. or only show up half way. I am wondering why this is happening and it's annoying to no end. Most time I have to result to extend the line and drawing the arrow myself.
Is this a common problem for anyone else..?

Stair arrows have been glitchy for a while.

Issue:
Can't control the text or arrows for stairs and ramps

Status:
You can't change them, they are "hard" coded in Revit. The user can only turn them off.

Workaround:

From menu: View>Visibility/Graphics (or keyboard shortcut type: VG)

From the Model Categories tab scroll down to stairs and expand the list of objects within stairs by clicking on the + next to stairs.

Uncheck UP text, up arrow, DOWN text and Down arrow.

Now that those are off you can place your own using text and leaders or other symbol you may have created.

Let's hope this gets squashed in the next release...why it's still "broke" is anybody's guess. :screwy:

Ditto for Ramps

Aside:
If the text and arrows are acceptable to you but you just want to move the text, hover over the text and you should see a small blue circle you can click on, then drag, to move the text. The entire boundary of the stair appears to move, don't panic, just the text will move. If you do grab the stair, just undo and try again. Try zooming in on the text first too.

Also...if you use the run feature of stairs to create your stair the arrow will show up. If you draft risers and boundaries they do not...

Is there a technical reason why the Factory can't fix this? This seems like a very practical request that has gone unfulfilled for years now. This was already an old request when R5.1 came out.

Are people just using a custom family for this?

Not answering the question because I can't...

Fwiw, I don't use the arrows or up/dn labels that are part of stairs at all. The up/dn labels are the same object for all views so you can only position them properly in one view, the rest they will not look right, at least in views of different scales. Because of this I use a piece of text and a straight leader. This way it is view specific and "right" in each view. A bit of extra work perhaps, but messing with the stair labels isn't? I turn off the arrow since the text and leader do that job.

Wow...years later and I'm STILL having this problem! :banghead:

Is the solution still to cheat and draw it in or is there a fix yet?

a. The "factory" doesnt know this is a problem users want solved. Nobody filed a support request.(Yeah right...)
b. Nobody put it on the wishlist, and if they did, it will probably be "fixed" (not that it's broken or anything) in not the next and not the one after that, but in the one after that... probably.
c. The "factory" cant think of these things by them selves. Come on puuuhlease!

Hey. I wasnt ataccing you or anything. Im sorry if it sounded that way.

I agree on the strategy of stairs needing retooling.
