View Full Version : massing disappears

I am using revit 09. I created a mass representing a roof ridge vent. It is all in place on the roof and looks good, then I close Revit and come back and the massing has disappeared. When I click show massing on the VIEW tab it reappears. So I know it is still there. Then I log out again and come back it is gone again. What do I need to do to keep it ON? When someone else comes into the drawing, they may not realize it is really there or I may forget to turn it on for printing a set. I am sure it is something simple, but I am just not finding it.
Thanks for any insight.

Massing is kind of a "special" category in Revit. I would not recommend modeling building objects as "massing". If what you are modeling does not fit into any other category you can always make it a generic model. Massing is more for building massing on a large scale. It acts kind of like a "scaffolding" to build up other components on top of. i.e. building maker tools.
Model your ridge vent as a generic in-place or component family rather than massing.

Check your visibility for the current view and make sure "Mass" is checked on.
But I agree with Jeff in regards to the use of using Massings for a concept/advanced modeling grid tool.

...or use the Roof By Face tool to add a "real" roof to the mass. The object created will remain parametric with the mass.
If you want to get the existing work into an in-place family - edit the mass - copy the geometry to the clipboard. Quit the mass and start an in-place family -> roof using the Create tool. Paste the copied geometry into the model to the same place. Assign amterials and other attibutes and finish.
