Filter to override core layers cut patterns?

I would like to either show dimensional lumber - which comprises the majority of my structural/core layers - with a cut pattern of a filled solid. I can do this by setting the material to display this in all views, but I only want to apply it to plan views. Can a filter be made to do this, and if so, then how?

I tried to add "material" as a parameter while making a filter, but it had no apparent affect on the graphic display of my stud walls.

I cannot just use the cut stlyes line weights either, as the requirement is to keep the outer faces of walls displayed as the boldest line, but we need to differentiate the the "core" (in my case, dimensional lumber) somehow- and I thought a filled pattern would cause far few errors when making judgements as to what line is what on the printed page.
