Hello-
I am trying to model what would seem to be a fairly simple shape. I would like to model a roof with an oval base that comes up to a straight ridge parallel to the ground. The ridge should be centered over the oval (like a cone that cones to a line rather than a point). I have tried numerous ways to doing this. Using ridge slopes on a roof by footprint lifts the corners of the oval base. I tried to make a mass by solid blend but could not use a line for the top (it required a closed loop). I ended up making a mass by solid blend and making a very narrow strip for the top for the time being. Any ideas on how to make it with a ridge?
Thanks!

I have attached a file of the roof as built with the roof by footprint tool. As you can see, the base lifts at the ridge corners. I would like the base to be level and parallel to the ground.

You could make an oval extrusion, then use void blends to cut away what you don't want...

If it's going to be a curtain system, that's an easy one, draw a curtain system by lines...

you can do this in 2009 with the Slab Shape Edit functionality available for Roofs.

The picture below shows what you are asking for, I think. An oval roof that goes to a linear ridge, and whole eaves stay 'flat' horizontal.

here is how you can make this

- Create an oval footprint roof (create an oval consisting of 4 tangent arcs)
- Do not make any of the arcs slope defining.
- Finish Sketch
- Select the Roof,
- Notice the 'Shape Editing' buttons in the Option bar,
- Use the 'Draw Lines' button in the Option bar
- Draw the center ridge, you can even snap to the centers of the arcs
- Once you have drawn the ridge, select the blue line and enter a height or drag it's arrow control if you are in a 3d view,
- Now you should have something that looks like this picture (two ends that are cones (arc to point) and two sides that are ruled surfaces (arc to line))
