I have an Architects walls I'm using for my backgrounds. I'm currently linking his walls into my model. What i would like to do is apply a filter to his walls to turn the bearing walls to shaded and non bearing walls to not shaded. Well its looking like filters only work with walls that are actually in your model. has no effect on linked walls.

Can someone confirm this for me? If anyone has another idea that would be great, I'm not looking forward to making filled regions over all his walls.

In your VG settings you should notice, a tab for Revit links.
If you click on this you will notice a link to the model under display settings click on the button labelled "By Host View"
This will open up another dialog box that has some options for plans and things like that.
For what you want to do you want to change the option to custom.
Then click on the model catagories tab. This will allow you to only affect the items of the linked model.

Change the settings to walls being shaded whatever else you need and then ok.
This should show the Architects walls as shaded while displaying yours at your own settings.

Yes this i understand how to do. However there is no "Filter" tab to do the same type of thing you can do with objects that are in your model directly. What i need to do is create a filter for the linked items to make the Non Bearing walls no shade and the Bearing walls shaded. I can only do that if the walls are directly in my model. The linked walls are not effected apparently by filters. :(

Thanks for the try, any other ideas?

Filters don't work on linked models. What you could do is to ask the architect to create the filters on his file (he can duplicate views if he doesn't want to mess with his own views). When you link, go to VV > Revit links > Select by Host view > change to by linked view > select the view showing the filter. This way you are bringing the filter from the linked.

You could also create the filters yourself in the linked file, sorry I misread your question.

Just becareful not to move anything and save the filters to a seperate file so u can bring them in to other Architect projects in the future or any Revisions.
