Rail profile created but not showing up in drop down

I'm trying to create a new railing. I've made a top rail profile from a template, loaded it into the project, and it shows up in the browser under families/profiles. When I try to edit the structure of the railing, I can't see the newly made profile in the drop down. Any help out there for this?

Edit the profile family you created and go to Settings > Family Category and Parameters > Profile Usage > Set it to Railing or Generic.

I did that, but in reading the help file, i think my problem was that i had more than one closed loop in the profile. Thanks for your help.
