Hello All,

Is it possible to create a dummy door tag? I have a CAD underlay of the existing building and would like to number some of the existing doors on the project. I would like them to appear in the door schedule with blank feilds so I can over type ' For Decoration Only'.

All help will be greatly recived.

Thank you.
James.

It is not possible to schedule tags. To get items to appear in a door schedule, it has to be the door category, and that requires a wall. You'll have to create wall style, trace portions of the CAD plan, and put doors in. If you put them on a special workset, or put a special text in the Type Comments fields of both, you'll be able to "hide" them with a View Filter. This will allow you to schedule them. You might be able to get regular door tags to stay visible as well.

Just to clarify, you can schedule tags or symbols as they are called. You would create a note block. So you could create a fake door tag. However this cannot be combined with the real door schedule. So if you're ok with two separate schedules, this might be the way to go.

Or another (better) option..
If you don't want to redraw AutoCAD information, make a simple door family using the generic model template. Just draw any old simple linework so you have something to select - it can look like a door if you want but that isn't important.. Make a subcategory for this linework with a name something like Fake Door. Now draw at least one invisible line. Maybe a box around the graphics.

You''ll be able to place this anywhere in the drawing as it is a unhosted element. You'll be able to tag it like any other door. If you have width height and other parameters, these will schedule just like any other door. The parameters don't even have to drive geometry.

Now when you want to set up the drawing to print, turn off the subcategory "Fake Door". The invisible lines remain so the tag doesn't turn off too. And you still be able to select the door and edit its parameters.

Nice writeup Aaron.

I will use this method for my dummytagger that I use for putting notes on things like railings, as it's a lot neater than my original cludgy creation that used graphics override to hide each insertion.

I go the the tag all not tagged and it wont add a door tag.

Another aspect of this is that the fake door did attached to the floor as a host.
How do I unattach it from it's host if it is as you say, an unhosted element?

Thanks
Jason

You have to change the Family Category to Doors in the Fake Door Family
