View Full Version : Beam family with slope control for tails

My problem is that in a gable roof where the beam meets the top plate in section. The beam is a square cut and can never be changed. Who would ever show this on their plans?
The question is does anyone have a beam/rafter family that has control of the angle at the ends of the beam? I would love to study a really advanced custom beam family...!!!!!!
Also this may be asking too much, but it would be nice to be able to just enter a normal slope value to control it (ie. 7:12)
Thanks

I would not call this "advanced" but here is a family I recently made to represent 2 x 12 rafters for a small cabin. There is a plumb cut at the ridge, and a seat cut where it sits on the top plate, and the exposed tail is ripped down to a 5-1/2" depth.
I didn't do much with visibility controls on this.
Also the tail can either be square cut or plumb cut.
I am at the phase where I can get things to work, it may not be elegant or clean, but it works. Hope this is helpful. I would also be interested to hear ways to improve this family.

Looks good. I cant seem to get the slope to change without it breaking though. My thought was to have an angle parameter to change the ends but cant figure out how to constrain that to the length of the family..see attached. Maybe i will try a void.
I find it fairly absurder that autodesk thinks that all beams would have a square cut condition....

I had an extra constraint in there. Try this one, it is slope adjustable
