structural usage and hidden lineweights

Maybe I am missing something very obvious. If a girder or joist is modeled under a roof deck, shouldn't the lineweight and object color still be determined by the structural usage of the beam? By setting the object style of structural framing subcategory hidden, it changes all beams to that lineweight and color completely ignoring the structural usage of the object? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think more information is needed.
First the easy stuff are you in course, medium or fine detail.
What is the member currently associated with? ie Girder, other?
When you changed the framing in the object styles which options have you changed?

I have the detail level set to fine, but If I switch it to course the correct lineweights are shown. When I turn the detail level back to fine, all structural framing falls under structural framing - hidden no matter what the structural usage is set to.

I'm not sure if I understood correctly, but......
what if you change your deck to transparent? do you get the visibility of your joists the way you want them? whether you are on fine or coarse.
