I can't seem to get my ceiling based electrical device to work in my model ceiling, nor can I seem to find a floor based family, nor a face hosted electrical device family to start with.
Can anyone steer me in the right direction?
BTW, I did look for one in the AutoDesk Seek content, they had an architectural family that had no 3rd dimension at all. (Just an annotation symbol).
Thanks in advance,
the Revit Noob

Face based families.
Especially for electrical devices.

I thought so... but, out of my options for a new family, I have the following:
Electrical Fixture ceiling based.
Electrical Fixture wall based
Electrical Fixture
I don't see which one of these it would be

just use generic model face based and change the category to electrical device.

Correction: this worked great for floor mounted recs...
I can't just "place" the thing in the ceiling, whether it is a grid or gypboard. I have to place it then move it in a section view by picking another plane. Is this typical?

create a reflected ceiling plan and "place on face" when adding them. Ceiling plan looks up at ceiling, floor plan looks down at floor. Thats why you cannot place them on the ceiling in a floor plan.
Also make sure that the plan orientation is set to "Reflected Ceiling Plan" on view properties.

Gotcha ~
I guess when I didn't "see" it, I was assuming it wasn't going in properly. Thanks again
